This is the next post

I've had complaints that you can't format in blogger these days.

Is it true?

Can you create paragraphs? Can you add links?

Well now for the moment of truth.

And what about video? Let's try a bit of shameless self-publicising now.

Embedding video

If I want to embed a video, most likely it will be a YouTube video. Writing in the editor right now there is no obvious (read intuitive) indication of how I should do this. So I'm going to mosey on down to YouTube, fetch me a whole lot of video embed code, swap to 'edit html' paste it in and see what happens. The last video I favorited was a multi-cultural piece of music which attempts to knock heads together. Utopian no doubt.

And that is indeed what you need to do.
And if it isn't YouTube? Same procedure as last year?

Yes, indeed, it is the same procedure as last year. This is part of the TED talk series and features Hans Rosling telling us that things are not as bad as we think or that the West is not as far ahead as it thinks.

The Golden Mean

Just found this video which doesn't tell you much but which shows you in a very visual way some of the features of the Golden Mean.

Adding an image to Blogger

When you want to add an image to your blog post in Blogger you have two options. Either you use an image which is on your computer or you use an image which is already online and to which you have the right to use.

We will look at adding an image from your computer. You cannot just link to the image on your computer. You need to copy the image from your computer to the blog host. Then in your blog posting the image used will be the copy at your blog host.

1. In Blogger click on the image icon shown in red in the image below.

2. Find the image you want to use on your computer by clicking on ‘browse’.

3. Click on OK when it is uploaded and the image will appear in your post. You can now move it around by highlighting the image and dragging it. You will see other formatting options presented to you, such as centring, if you wish to use them.

4. If you are using other blog providers such as Wordpress you may have to add the image to an image library first and then go to the image library to collect the image for inclusion in your post.

Learning by doing

This report from BBC news exemplifies 'learning by doing' which is what introducing blogging into the classroom is about.

Quote:
He built special kiosks where only children could reach the keyboard, and left them connected to the internet. In each case the results were the same.
Without adult intervention, the children got to grips with the technology, even with their limited understanding of English.
Sugata was able to make some important but controversial observations. For Sugata, it is this group learning which is significant.
'We know that in nine months the entire group of children in a village would have reached approximately the level of an office secretary, which means they know dragging and dropping files, they know downloading, they can play video and audio and they can surf the internet".
